#riogoldrush: Schedule for Jamaican athletes in Rio on Saturday, Aug. 20


Jamaica will be trying to add to their medal tally of 9 (6 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze) on Day 15 of the Rio Games on Saturday. It will be the penultimate day of the Olympics, which ends on Sunday.

Only one event is scheduled for the final day, the men’s marathon.

Jamaica will compete in the men and women’s 4×400-metre relay finals on Saturday.

The Jamaican women easily book their spot in the final after winning the second preliminary round heat of the semifinals on Friday night

Novlene Williams-Mills guided Jamaica home in a season’s best 3 minutes, 22.38 to easily beat Britain and Canada.

United States qualified fastest for the women’s final.

Javon Francis overtook David Verburg just before the finish to give Jamaica first spot in the first of the men’s 4×400-metre relay preliminaries at 2 minutes, 58.29 seconds, 0.09 ahead of the American team, which led most of the race.
